Bet Dwarka Island Gujarat: The Sacred Island Where Lord Krishna Resided
A sacred island accessible only by ferry from Okha, where Lord Krishna is believed to have made his personal residence, separate from his royal palace in Dwarka.
About Bet Dwarka Island
Bet Dwarka, also known as Shankhoddhara or Beyt Dwarka, is a small island located in the Gulf of Kutch off the coast of Okha in Gujarat. The word "Bet" is derived from the Gujarati word for island, and this small landmass holds great religious significance as the place where Lord Krishna is believed to have established his personal residence, apart from the grand royal palace and capital city of Dwarka on the mainland. While the Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka city represents Krishna as the king and ruler, Bet Dwarka represents Krishna in his more intimate, personal aspect as the beloved friend, the protector and the divine presence within the home.
The main temple on Bet Dwarka is also called the Dwarkadhish Temple and houses a revered idol of Lord Krishna depicted alongside his principal queen Rukmini. The idol is believed to be ancient and possesses a unique spiritual power that devotees describe as far more intense and personal than the experience at the main Dwarkadhish Temple. Several scriptures and oral traditions mention Bet Dwarka as the place where Krishna's most private and intimate moments, including his personal prayers, his conversations with close friends and his moments of rest, took place. Pilgrims who visit both Dwarkadhish Temple and Bet Dwarka feel they have experienced two complementary aspects of Krishna's divine presence.
Beyond its principal temple, Bet Dwarka is home to over 12 other temples dedicated to various deities including Hanuman, Kali and other forms of Vishnu. The island itself is relatively small and can be explored on foot in two to three hours. The approach by ferry, with the azure waters of the Gulf of Kutch surrounding the island, adds a dimension of scenic beauty to the spiritual journey that is uniquely memorable.
"If Dwarkadhish Temple is where Krishna ruled as king, Bet Dwarka is where Krishna lived as a beloved: the most personal and intimate of his sacred spaces."

2
Check the Last Ferry Timing
The last ferry back from Bet Dwarka to Okha typically departs at approximately 7:00 to 7:30 PM. Plan your visit to ensure you are back at the Okha jetty well before this time. Prasadam on the Island
Simple, sattvic (pure vegetarian) prasadam and snacks are available on Bet Dwarka island near the main temple. The prasadam distributed after aarti is considered especially sacred. Carry some drinking water from Dwarka as the island is hot. Avoid carrying non-vegetarian food onto the island out of respect for the sacred space.
